 Electrical heating
BASIC SERVICES
  • Steam-cleaning (Phase A)
This consists of injecting steam at a temperature of around 120C into the cisterns. For products such as petrol, diesel, paraffin or chocolate. This operation is used as an initial phase when the product is sensitive to temperature and as a final phase to sterilise the tank when other products are involved. If the tank has lower outlet pipes the steam is injected through these while all the upper lids remain closed (single-compartment trailer-tankers), except the final lid, so that the steam circulates throughout the entire tank (in multi-body trailer-tankers the lids are left half open). When the cistern does not have lower outlet pipes the steam is injected through the upper pipe of the fase de gas, so that it is distributed around the inside of the tank and is evacuated through the upper outlet pipe.
  • Cleaning with pressurised hot water (Phase B)
This consists in injecting hot water at around 60C and at a pressure of 70-200 Kg/cm2, through the upper openings of a rotating head which projects water in all directions and against the internal walls of the tank.

Depending on the type of cleaning process used, different pressures may be worked with:
    - Line 1 : 30-50-70 Kg/cm2
    - Line 2 : 80-150-200 Kg/cm2
  • Rinsing or washing in pressurised cold water (Phase C)
This consists of injecting cold water at a pressure of 70-200 Kg/cm2 through the upper outlets, using the rotating heads. If rubber or polyethylene trailer-tankers are used the pressure is 50 Kg/cm2. This is used as a final phase for those procedures mentioned above or as a cleaning operation when the use of heat to remove a product is either unnecessary or inappropriate. The final operation to be carried out is that of inspecting the tank to ensure that it has been adequately cleaned, through a visual verification of the water leaving the outlet pipe and the inside of the tank. Any additional products required are applied under the supervision of the head of washing facilities and with respect to the cleaning phase and the product cleaned.
  • External cleaning of lorries
The external cleaning of lorries and trailer-tankers is undertaken using high pressure pistols, cleaning the walls and the underside of the lorry with hot water and detergents.

OPERATIONS ACCORDING TO PRODUCT
JM Caadas applies distinct methods of cleaning and steam-treatment in accordance with the type of product transported in the trailer-tankers:
  • Powdered products
This includes products in a solid state, in granular or powdered form; plastics, construction materials (lime, plaster, dolomite, etc), special powdered products (boric acid, calcium chloride, carbonates, sulphates, etc.). In Phase C plastics and construction materials are rinsed using the rotating heads for some 3 minutes, and with hot water on request. Special powdered products will first be cleaned using a Phase B, for 5 minutes as these products, on entering in contact with cold water, are the most difficult to eliminate. Those trailer-tankers which transport these types of products are silo type, and have a pressurised air system to facilitate the unloading of the product. Unloading equipment (lids, valves, pressure tubes, etc.) must be cleaned with pressurised hot water hoses.
  • Solvents and hydrocarbons
This group includes volatile solvents and hydrocarbons (acetone, methanol, alcohol, benzene, etc.) and not volatile or oily products (butyl glycol, estireno, hexane, diesel, isodecanol, etc.) Initial solvent cleaning begins with Phase B for 5 minutes in order to avoid the evaporation of inflammable products. This is followed by Phase A for 10 minutes when hoses, lids and valves, among other equipment used in unloading is also cleaned. Phase C is the final stage and lasts 5 minutes. Initiation of the cleaning process begins with Phase A when volatile hydrocarbons are involved in order to evaporate inflammable products. This process takes some 20 minutes. This is followed by Phase B, during another 5 minutes and when hoses, lids and valves, among other equipment used in unloading is also cleaned. Phase C is the final stage and lasts 5 minutes. When non volatile non-oily solvents are involved the process is initiated with Phase B for 5 minutes, followed by Phase A for 15 minutes and finally Phase C for 5 minutes in order to verify disinfection and deodorise the tank.
  • Acids and bases
Included in this group are sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, caustic soda, bleach, ammonia, potash, etc. These products are easy to clean, however care must be taken to ensure that the tank is totally empty as some of them by produce virulent reactions when in contact with water. Only Phase C is used in the cleaning of these products for a duration of 5 minutes.
  • Food products
This group includes the following products: wine, juice, food products, butter, chocolate, milk, citric acid, glucose, animal fat and other substances. The cleaning process is initiated with Phase B for 5 minutes when one of these products has to be cleaned, in order to remove products stuck to the inner walls. The auxiliary equipment for unloading and loading is also cleaned. Phase A will be initiated to rinse with detergent (the detergent used is checked for use with foodstuffs). Phase B is the final procedure which is applied for approximately 10 minutes in order to sterilise the tank. If the product involved is chocolate verification will be made to check whether product remains for storage in containers and later treatment by authorised operators. Phase B is initiated for 10 minutes and verification is made again for remaining products, Phase A will be applied for 10 minutes and finally Phase B for 5 minutes.
  • Special chemical products
This covers products such as soaps, glues, industrial oils and plasticizers, latex and resins. Soap cleaning procedure involves rinsing with cold water, and before unloading an anti-foaming agent is added to the soapy liquid. Once the tank has been emptied we proceed with Phase B for 5 minutes, and as a final step we proceed with Phases A and C to sterilise the tank. When cleaning involves adhesive products the auxiliary unloading equipment is cleaned with hot or cold water. Phase B is applied to the tank for 10 minutes followed by Phase A, for half the time as Phase B at the request of the client. When industrial oils and plasticizers are involved, Phase B is applied with detergent added to the water for a period of 5 minutes. Phase A is then applied for a period from 5 to 15 minutes and finally Phase B without detergent in order to rinse the tank (with the option of carrying out Phase A once again for a period of 5 minutes). When latex is involved Phase C is initiated for 5-10 minutes. If product still remains encrusted on the walls one of the operators will enter the tank (following the appropriate safety measures) in order to remove the latex with a scraper. Phase C will finally be applied for 5 minutes. When phenolic resins are being used Phase B will be initiated for 10 minutes (if the client requests Phase A may be carried out). Finally a Phase C rinsing will be applied for 5-10 minutes.
